About The Tour
The main town on the island of the same name just off Kenya’s northeastern coast, tranquil Lamu was founded in the 14th century, making it the country’s oldest living town and the best-preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa. Lamu Museum (with its prized siwa horns) and the two-centuries-old Lamu Fort are two of the main attractions. The restored Swahili House Museum is small but quite interesting. About a 30-minute walk north of town, white sandy Shela Beach is one of the island’s best.

Best Time To Visit
The best times to visit Lamu, an enchanting island off the coast of Kenya, are during the dry seasons when the weather is favorable for exploration and outdoor activities. Lamu experiences distinct wet and dry periods:
Dry Season (June to October): This is considered the primary dry season in Lamu. During these months, you can expect minimal rainfall, warm temperatures, and plenty of sunshine. It’s an excellent time for beach outings, water activities, and exploring the rich cultural heritage of the island.
Short Dry Season (January to February): Another relatively dry period occurs in January and February. While not as extended as the main dry season, these months offer pleasant weather conditions for travelers. It’s important to note that Lamu has a monsoon season, which brings heavier rains and stronger winds.
The main wet season typically occurs from March to May, with a shorter rainy period in November.
